For quite some time many of us have questioned - Is rice or let alone carbohydrates good or bad for dogs?

A balanced dog’s diet comes down to six elements: water, protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins.

In all our meals at Nino's Dog Food, we include a small % of Brown rice. This particular rice is full of natural fiber, which helps a dog's digestion. In addition, it is also an excellent source of carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Specifically, vitamins D and B  which is essential to heart health.

Unlike white rice which although is easy to digest it does however create a spike in your dog’s blood sugar faster.

Brown rice’s rich fiber and nutrient content, helps digest more slowly in the gut, preventing your dog’s blood sugar from spiking.

Unless your dog has specific food allergies or intolerances to grains, excluding them for their diet can actually create long term health issues in your furry best friend!

Fiber that is contained in carbohydrate products can assist in nourishing a healthy gut bacteria and also improves stool quality. Moral of the story, before you think grains and other carbohydrate products are added as a filler in your dogs food, remember they are actually there to provide valuable nutrients to their diet (of course in moderation).
